Hey, was thinkin, what do you guys think is the best song BS2 has, musically speaking?

this may not make too much sense cause I just woke up lol

Also, the same for FIF...

Personally, I'd say Rocketown (for real, I love the bass line, the keyboard line, etc) and Fistful of Sand.

BS2 wise I would say "Daylight" is the most complex song. I remember seeing an essay on the frenzy board someone wrote for their music class describing the various changes in the song and how the song itself is essentially the climax/centerpiece of that album.

FIF wise I would say "The Greatest Story Ever Told"

I hate to be so positively against you on this one, Saturn5, but there are roughly 2 and a half albums worth of musically better songs than Rocketown, imo. I would probably have to agree with Nintene... I think, although I honestly think Fields of the Fallen just works, all the way around. I mean, maybe I'm just blaspheming here, but I really didn't care for much of the first album. I do view it as a progression, and appreciate it for what it is, but I think a lot more time went into the latter two albums and you can definitely see growth in the music and lyrics as the band progresses. I could probably pick out what I thought to be the most pleasing musical pieces on each album: Space Robot Five, Daylight, and Fields of the Fallen.

As far as Five Iron Frenzy... the best song musically... is tough for me... again i can probably pick one per album (although the most musical album, overall, I think is Electric Boogaloo). Car definitely exercised some major musical chops, I thought, and I love the guitar work in particular in Eulogy, but On Distant Shores was just epic. So, I don't know. There are just too many songs for Five Iron in particular where there are certain intricacies that it's difficult to say "This song best represents Five Iron Frenzy musically, out of all their other songs."

My favorite bs2 songs would probably be These Frail Hands or Estrella... used to be Daylight but idk

FIF wise would be Distant Shores... And i personally feel like the song that would represent the band as a whole would have to be Ugly Day or Dandelions...

Yeah, xcross, you also kind of have to keep in mind the fact that FIF and BS2 went through some pretty obvious progressions musically (moreso FIF). That makes it doubly difficult to say that musically, a particular song represents them. I mean, we go from predominately lighthearted ska (even the songs with heavier topics sound lighthearted) in the very beginning and continuing through All The Hype. And while there's some heavy-ish stuff before this, you really start to see a significant change in Electric Boogaloo. This is what I consider to be FIF's blue period, haha.

In any case, that's why I think On Distant Shores can kind of really represent who FIF is on a musical level, and perhaps even on a lyrical level. It's kind of the culmination of where they'd been and where they'd come to.

I for one can't wait to see what they do next. Come on reunion tour.

Anyway, again, if you're going to pick one song to represent BS2, I usually will start with Daylight, but I usually also go through the story beforehand when introducing BS2 to someone who hadn't heard them before.

I really like how "Under Bridges" builds from the beginning of the song, and I also feel that it might have the best message of any of the BS2 songs. While I think "Recall" is probably my favorite BS2 song and Daylight is also a very powerful song, to me, "Under Bridges" is probably the best thing that they have done.

As for Five Iron... I don't think I can pick anything other than "Every New Day." Particularly their final performance of it; particularly at the end, when Reese is singing "Lord, here's my heart; may it be forever yours. Only you can make every new day seem so new."

I can't say: "Song X is objectively better than any others." to me all the BS2 (and FIF) songs are like Land Cruisers, you just can't go wrong with any of them, and the more the merrier.
I would say, though, that "Binary" is incredible, the music is just so amazing, and visual, and the words are the story of my life. "Binary" is like that uber-close friend that's been there for me throughout every heartbreak and failure, and told me that there are at least four other people who are as sad, lonely, and pathetic as me out there...

For Five Iron, man, that's tough, because, as was said, there's just so much to them in terms of quantity of songs, depth of meaning, and just greatness. I would have to say "The Cross of Saint Andrew" most definitely rocks my socks off for two reasons:
1. The bridge is downright haunting. I can't not get chills down my spine whenever the song reaches that point.
2. My copy of TEIH is defective, and I can't copy the song onto my computer, or Zune. The track has a blister in it halfway through all the post-concert recordings and whatnot, so I hear the song like, once every couple o' years, which makes it all the more savory, and great.

Oh man... where to begin. BS2 wise, the song that encompasses most of their sound across their three cds would have to be Daylight. I mean its got everything, from the spacey sounds of SFFH, the almost poignant lyrics of LOTHF, and the just "rockin'-ness" of AM. As far as my favorite song, it'd have to be a three way tie between the aforementioned Daylight, These Frail Hands, and Always Just Beneath the Dawn.
FIF would have to be Every New day, and like previously stated especially their last performance of it with the screaming that Reese does so well. Epic.
